A fine-grain, waxy solid that is a saturated fatty acid with an 18-carbon chain. Used in the production of detergents, deodorants, and cosmetics such as shampoos and shaving cream products. Stearic acid also acts as a hardening agent for soaps, candles and other costmetics. It improves the structure of the mix and increases both its shelf life and stickiness on the skin.
